As the rain clouds rolled in on Tuesday morning, so did many Western Mass. high school vaulters. Just like always, the weather didn’t stop the coaches of Patriot Pole Vault Club (PPVC) and the 20+ vaulters who came out to our Drills & Skills Clinic held at Chicopee Comprehensive High School in Chicopee, MA.  The objective of the day was to have athletes leave with a basic progression of drills and skills to help learn the proper progressions of the pole vault to bring back to their schools. With a light drizzle and chilly temps, Coach Doug, along with fellow Patriot Coaches Jay Weber, Ross Dominique, and Dan Delisle, provided athletes ranging from all skill levels a basic drill progression including grass drills, sand vaulting, gymnastics, and short approach drills into the pits.

Special thanks to Chicopee Comp High School for the use of their beautiful facility, Ross Dominique (Ludlow HS/Westfield State) for use of gymnastics equipment, Tom Gauger (Westfield State) and Amy Auclair (Westfield State, PPVC) for their assistance and demonstration with drills, and of course the coaches and their athletes who attended to make this clinic absolutely fantastic!

Patriot Pole Vault Club West looks forward to hosting regular practices this summer. Check back for updates on our calendars as we finalize Western Mass. practices.
