Burlington, VT – With pole check-in starting at 8am, the competition at the New England High School Championships was more of an endurance event with the final jumps being taken as late as 4:30pm. Coach Ingrid’s weather radar on her cell phone confirmed over and over again steady rain clouds rolling in towards the Burlington area from 9am until after 1pm. After two failed warmups, the competition finally got underway around 2pm. Luckily, Burlington High School’s impressive facility includes two full vault areas, allowing simultaneous competitions for both the boys and girls.

On the girl’s side, PPVC vaulters Erin Silva (MA), Jaci Briggs (NH), Lindsey Folsom (ME), Meg Darnley (MA), Catelyn Griffin (MA), Jennifer Tylock (MA), and vaulting newbie Morgan Hart (RI), competed on behalf of their high schools.  Despite the long day, wet socks, and chilly weather, the girls all vaulted near or above their PR’s. Top finishers include Erin (4th, 11’3″) and Jaci Briggs (6th, 10’9″).

For the boys, Aaron Beckwith (NH), Greg Copeland (MA), Brendan Sullivan (MA), Will Plummer (MA), and Dylan Sullivan (MA, coached by Coach Iggy), all stuck it out to clear some bars. Unfortuately Nick Tyler (RI), had to leave early with all the delays to get back to Rhode Island after a very long ride. Brendan Sullivan placed 2nd on misses with a jump of 15’3″, just missing a new PR of 15’9″. Greg Copeland jumped 13’9″ for 4th place.
