Coach DougCoach Doug began pole vaulting while a freshman at Penfield High School in Upstate New York. He continued his athletic career at Tufts University until 1992 (13 feet). At this time he was a volunteer assistant coach at Tufts University until 1996. He graduated from Boston College in 1998 with an MS in Chemistry and in 1999 he earned a MS in Computer Science from Northeastern. In 1997, he answered a request to help developing pole vaulters at Longmeadow High School. In 1998, Coach Doug became an member of the Westborough High School coaching staff. Coach Doug’s devotion to helping all levels of developing athletes has lead him to currently be a volunteer Coach for Worcester Polytechnic Institute and UMass-Lowell.

Aside form being know nationally for his work on the web page Pole Vault World According to Gus, Coach Doug has worked for the Westborough Public School District as a technology repair specialist since 2000. In 2000, Coach Doug caved to constant requests from high school vaulters, from across New England, to create a club that gave everyone an equal and affordable opportunity to develop in the sport.

    On behalf of all the vaulters at WHS, Coach Doug is the man. Best coach we have ever had throughout our various walks of life. He knows what he is doing and has a great sense of humor. Beware however his bald spot is growing…. It may be predicted to engulf all of his face within the next few years……
